About Sydney Model Railway Society
Established in 1936, Sydney Model Railway Society is the oldest Model Railway Club in Australia.
The club started after an advertisement was placed in the Greyhound Recorder which led to the initial meeting of 10 likeminded railway modellers. The club was able to obtain use of a room at the Railway Institute in Castlereagh Street but from 1947 were able to moved to much larger space on the 4th floor which allowed expansion of both the O and HO gauge layouts
Sadly in the late 1970's the decision by the powers that be was to sell the Castlereagh Street building so as much of the layouts as possible were removed in for several years were stored in a members garage in Bexley. Fortunately only a couple of years later one of our members was able to find new rooms at Arncliffe which is where we remain to this day.
Much has changed since 1936 and as we rapidly approach our 90th anniversary we a privileged to honour the past and efforts or forefathers while being appreciative of the model model railway scene full of ready to run models. Sydney Model Railway Society continues from strength to strength with recently completing the conversion to DCC and continuing to run a layout at many local exhibitions. .
We meet every Monday night from 6.30pm and discuss all things trains, run sessions and model skill training. We also run day sessions every second Friday.
Visitors are most welcome and we are welcoming of new members.
